Puig Porret Prize 2014 CANTS OBLIDATS brings to the fore the value of the legacy of the gypsy-Catalan singers and their particular approach to flamenco, “flamencoised” singing, and melismatic songs often sung in their native language: Catalan. Their repertoire moves between songs considered peripheral but also canonical, that in this production are interpreted in Catalan to break taboos on the use of the Catalan language in the sphere of flamenco. At the same time it once again highlights the historical relationship between Catalonia and flamenco. The project is led by Joan Clota, 'Nen', singer and composer renowned among the Roma communities in Spain, France and Portugal. Heir to a lineage of renowned gypsy-Catalan singers, Nen is a vocal gem all set to be discovered by the general public.
