Rocío Márquez

HIMNO VERTICAL is the new musical project by Rocío Márquez, released in May 2025 and presented for the first time in Catalonia as the opening concert of the 37th MMVV. Accompanied solely by Pedro Rojas’s classical and electric guitars, the project explores an indeterminate space between flamenco, classical music, and experimentation. Márquez reflects on the concept of artistic authorship and questions, through body and voice, the origin of creative inspiration.

Beyond fandangos, seguidillas, soleás, bulerías, tangos, and rumbas, there are artists dedicated to researching, experimenting, and transcending genres. It’s not enough for them to be good (or incredible) performers. I’ve seen ROCÍO daring on every album and every song, fully aware of what it means to take risks and seek new paths in a world like flamenco. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy singing live “Aire,” a track from her new album with Pedro Rojas Ogáyar — Himno vertical (Delirio y Romero Producciones, 2025). Or to see her rumba to “De mí,” one of my favorite songs from Tercer cielo (Universal, 2022), her award-winning album with producer Bronquio.
